Engineering’s Spring Distinguished Lecture Series Set

Following the College of Engineering’s successful fall slate of Distinguished Lecture Series events, the spring slate of speakers will cover topics ranging from sustainability to space exploration and anything in between.

“We had incredible excitement and turnout for our events last fall, and we hope to build upon that momentum this spring,” said Wayne Davis, dean of the college. “The faculty and researchers we have coming to our campus represent a diverse, highly acclaimed group of professionals.”

The presentations, all free and open to the public, will be held at 4 p.m. in Room 622 of the Min H. Kao Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Building.

Those who are unable to attend can view a live webcast and pose questions to the presenters at the end of their discussions. An archived video of each presentation will be available online for later viewing.

The lineup is:

  • January 27—Francisco Valero-Cuevas, professor of biomedical engineering and biokinesiology at the University of Southern California, will talk about biological engineering.
  • March 9—Nancy Love, professor of civil and environmental engineering at the University of Michigan, will discuss water usage, treatment, and recovery.
  • March 23—Viney P. Aneja, professor of air quality at North Carolina State University, will talk about air quality and atmospheric studies.
  • April 4—Les Johnson, NASA deputy manager and acclaimed author, will discuss space flight, travel, and eventual colonization. Johnson has authored a series of successful fiction-based books on space exploration and colonization and served as a technical consultant on the 1998 movie Lost in Space.
