Dr. Stephanie TerMaath, Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical, Aerospace, and Biomedical Engineering, has been selected to participate in the National Academy of Engineering’s 2015 US Frontiers of Engineering Symposium this September in Irvine, California.

This annual meeting brings together 100 of the nation’s outstanding young engineers (ages 30-45) from industry, academia, and government to discuss pioneering technical and leading-edge research in various engineering fields and industry.

According to the Frontiers of Engineering website, the program provides an opportunity for top-notch engineers, early in their career to learn about cutting-edge developments in fields other than their own, thereby facilitating collaborative work and the transfer of new approaches and techniques across fields.

This year’s symposium will focus on cutting-edge developments in optical and mechanical metamaterials, cybersecurity, engineering the search for Earth-like planets, and forecasting natural disasters.

TerMaath says she is extremely excited and honored to be chosen for this program. She plans to incorporate material from this symposium into her courses and her work with middle and high school STEM students.
