Astronaut Scott Kelly Makes Pair of Media Splashes

Photo of Scott KellyNASA Astronaut Scott Kelly, a graduate of the University of Tennessee Space Institute, had a pair of highly visible media appearances over the weekend.

The first moment for Commander Kelly came via the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

Kelly, who is spending a year in space aboard the International Space Station and has already set the US record for cumulative time in space, took part in one of Fallon’s trademark bits, his Friday night “Thank You Notes” segment.

The comic bit, which often pokes fun at politicians and celebrities in ironic ways, saw Kelly deliver a line about living in space being the best excuse to say “no” to Facebook invites.

Kelly followed that the next day by Tweeting out an image of Houston’s NRG Stadium, taken from space during the Houston Texans-Kansas City Chiefs playoff game.

That photo has since been retweeted more than 1,000 times.
