The University of Tennessee Space Institute holds a nine week summer internship program for undergraduate students from across the US every summer. Each intern is assigned to one or more professors specializing in a field of expertise ranging from hypersonics, space propulsion, biomedical, mechanical, and industrial engineering.

At the end of the program, each intern is required to write a report and give a presentation on what they learned during their time at the Space Institute.

This summer, ten interns are participating in the program, visiting from the University of Tennessee, University of Alabama, Purdue University, Tennessee Tech, University of South Carolina, and LeTourneau University. They are majoring in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, chemistry, biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, and aeronautical & astronautical engineering.
