Tony Schmitz
Professor Tony Schmitz will be joining the newly formed advisory board for East Tennessee PBS’s Building the Future of East Tennessee’s Workforce project, which seeks to increase awareness of vocational and STEM careers among K-8 students through a series of engaging videos that will air on East Tennessee PBS. The machining videos will be filmed on campus at Schmitz’s Machine Tool Research Center.
As a board member, Schmitz will review and provide feedback on episode ideas, review episodes, identify jobs and skills for future episodes, assist with key copy points for episodes, provide contacts and introductions for locations for future episodes, and provide guidance for companion curriculum.
The workforce project is one of nine pilot projects being funded by the Tennessee Valley Authority’s Connected Communities initiative, which uses community-driven information and the newest technology solutions to address challenges that include broadband access, environmental risk monitoring, digital literacy training, and next-generation career options.
